Repeating their performance in the 1998 Oscar race, this year's winners are Gary and Lindsey!
The actual race was not all that exciting: Gary correctly predicted the first six minor categories, and so was ahead until Brent caught up and tied with the 8th envelope; then Gary pulled ahead and stayed in the lead for the rest of the night (even though he missed some of the big final categories like Actress, Director, and Picture!). For the last ten categories, it was a see-saw battle for second place between Karen, Brent, Grandma, Paul, and Lauren. But when the curtain went down, Gary had 15 correct picks, Karen had 12, and Grandma 11.
Perhaps the most impressive performance of the night, though, belongs to Paul: Of the top six categories -- Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor, and Supporting Actress -- Paul hit all six! That's something that has never been done before in (our) Oscar history! Grandma came close in 1999, when she predicted five; but this is our first clean sweep!
Lindsey outscored everyone in the 17-and-under division (not to mention Donna, John, and Ryan!), so -- like last year -- she will take ownership of the trophy for six months.
Thanks to everybody who played along this year. See you next year!
